A coffee table cut from a teak root and left in its natural color rather than stained. The form is whatever the root grew into, levelled top and bottom and otherwise not straightened, so the outline, the voids and the grain pattern belong to that one piece of wood.
Leaving a root piece unstained shows more than a stain does. The dense parts of root grain and the open parts take light differently, so the surface shifts in tone across its width, and the seams where separate root limbs fused are visible rather than blended away. Root wood is exceptionally dense from having grown under compression, which is why a piece like this is heavy for its size and does not split as it dries out.
