Performance Fabric Throw Blanket – Indoor Outdoor, 48x72, Umber

Umber is a dark earth pigment, brown with red underneath it, and this throw carries that single color across all 48 by 72 inches with no pattern or contrast stitching to interrupt it. The whole of the piece is the color and the hand of the cloth; there is nothing else to look at. Six feet of length covers a reclining adult, and four feet of width reaches across most sofa seats.

Performance fabric names a category of construction rather than a fiber. What it is built for is the outdoor cycle of wet, dry, then hot sun, repeated: color held inside the fiber rather than printed onto it, and a surface that lets liquid sit long enough to be wiped away instead of drawing it straight into the weave. The trade-off is hand, since performance cloth starts firmer than wool or cotton and softens through use.

Because it is rated for outside, it can stay on a patio chair or a deck rail through a season rather than being carried in each evening. Indoors it works over a sofa arm or across the end of a bed.
