Outdoor Rocking Chair – Teak & Iron Frame, Weather Resistant

A rocking chair built for outdoors, on an iron frame with teak. The two materials divide the work between them. Iron gives the rockers and the structure the rigidity a rocking chair needs, since a frame that flexes will not return the same arc twice. Teak takes the seat and the surfaces a person actually puts their hands and weight on.

Teak is the traditional outdoor timber for one reason: the wood carries its own oils, which keeps water out of the grain and deters the rot and insects that end most outdoor furniture. Left untreated it moves from honey brown to silver-grey over a season or two, which is a surface change and not a structural one. Iron is the half that wants watching. Check the joints and the rocker contact points, since that is where an outdoor metal frame shows wear first.

A porch, a covered deck, or a spot beside a door where a chair gets used in the evening. A rocker needs clear floor behind it, so allow roughly a foot of travel between the chair and the wall.
