Made For Everyday Living
Built to last

A handcrafted wooden pendant, made in three diameters — 23 cm, 35 cm and 45 cm — and two shade styles, A and B. Because each shade is worked by hand rather than pressed out, the grain pattern and the exact figure of the timber differ between individual pieces even within a single size and style.

Wood is an unusual pendant material because it is opaque and relatively heavy, and both facts shape what the fixture does. Being opaque, it directs all its light downward instead of glowing as a form, so it lights a surface rather than a room. Being heavier than glass or acrylic at the same diameter, the 45 cm shade in particular wants a ceiling fixing that reaches a joist rather than plasterboard alone.

The 23 cm suits a hallway or a bedside; the 45 cm suits a dining table or an island where a single fixture has to hold the space on its own. Wood reads warm against a white ceiling and all but disappears against a timber one.

Each Shade Worked Separately

Because every shade is worked by hand rather than pressed out, the grain pattern and the exact figure of the timber differ between individual pieces even within a single size and style. Two of the same order will not be identical.

Opaque Changes The Job

Wood is an unusual pendant material because it is opaque. All the light goes downward instead of the shade glowing as a form, so the fixture lights a surface rather than filling a room with light.

Weight Reaches The Joist

Wood is heavier than glass or acrylic at the same diameter, and the 45 cm shade in particular wants a ceiling fixing that reaches a joist rather than plasterboard alone. That is worth checking before ordering the largest size.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the grain match the photo?

Not exactly. Each shade is worked by hand rather than pressed, so the grain and the figure of the timber vary between pieces even within one size and one style.

Does the shade glow?

No, wood is opaque. Everything travels downward, so the fixture lights a surface rather than reading as a lit form the way a glass or acrylic shade would in the same position.

What fixing does it need?

The 45 cm in particular wants a ceiling fixing that reaches a joist, since wood weighs more than glass or acrylic at the same diameter. Plasterboard alone is not enough for the largest size.

Which diameter suits which room?

The 23 cm suits a hallway or a bedside. The 45 cm suits a dining table or an island where one fixture has to hold the whole space by itself, with 35 cm in between.

How does it read against a ceiling?

Warm against a white one, where it stands out as the only timber overhead. Against a wooden ceiling it all but disappears, which may be the effect you want or the opposite.
