Corduroy and velvet are both pile fabrics, but they wear differently: corduroy's ribs run in one direction and hold their nap, while velvet's shorter pile shifts and catches light as you move past it. A steel frame changes what the chair has to do structurally. Where a wood dining chair depends on glued joints between the leg and the seat rail, welded steel carries load through the tube itself, so the geometry stays fixed and the chair does not develop the seasonal looseness wood joinery can. The upholstery sits on top of that frame, which means the fabric takes the wear while the structure underneath stays unchanged.

It suits a dining room where the table is the visual weight and the chairs should recede, and it works pulled up to a desk or set against a wall as occasional seating. The corduroy colorways read warmer; the velvets read more formal.
