Leather Wrapped Floor Mirror – Mink or Nubuck Charcoal

The frame here is wrapped in leather rather than finished in metal or wood, which puts a soft material at the edge of an otherwise hard object. Two hides are offered: Surrey Mink, a mid-brown with a smooth face, and Nubuck Charcoal, sanded to a fine nap and reading dark gray and matte.

The two leathers age in opposite directions. Smooth leather builds a patina, darkening where hands and sleeves pass and picking up a shine across years. Nubuck does the reverse, because its nap is raised fiber that flattens under contact, so a nubuck frame goes smoother and slightly darker at the points it is touched and stays matte everywhere else. Neither takes well to water, so a leather frame should be kept out of the spray when the glass gets cleaned.

A floor mirror in leather suits a bedroom or a dressing area where other soft materials are already present. It reads warmer in that position than a metal-framed mirror of the same size.
