Stoneware Table Lamp – Red Clay, Silver & Bone, Bedside & Console

Stoneware is clay fired hot enough to vitrify, which is why this lamp's base feels closer to stone than to pottery. It is glazed in three colorways that behave quite differently: Red Clay, warm and earthen; Silver, a cool grey; and Bone, an off-white that reads softer than a true white. The glaze changes the character of the lamp far more than its silhouette does.

A fired clay base is heavy for its size, which is the practical argument for it on a bedside table — the lamp stays where it is put. Glaze gives the surface a sealed, wipeable face, so marks lift off instead of soaking in the way unglazed earthenware absorbs them. Glaze also pools slightly as it melts in the kiln, so tone varies across the curve of each base; two lamps in the same colorway will not be identical.

It is sized for a nightstand or a console rather than a floor corner, and it works where you want the light source within arm's reach. Bone disappears into pale rooms, Silver holds its own against grey and black furniture, and Red Clay is the one that brings color of its own.
