Buying both at once is the usual reason this exists, since an ottoman recovered in a different fabric from its chair stops reading as part of the same piece.

An ottoman cover wears faster than a chair cover, which is part of why it is sold separately at all. Shoes land on the top face, people sit on the edge rather than the middle, and trays get set down on it, so the fabric takes abrasion that the seat of a chair never sees. Expect to replace an ottoman cover before its matching chair cover, and choose the darker fabrics if that gap matters.

Suitable indoors and out. Stone and Slate hide use best. Ivory and Cream are the choices for a covered space where feet are more likely to be bare than shod.
