Outdoor Dining Chair – Teak Frame, Performance Fabric Upholstery

A teak-framed dining chair upholstered in Pendleton Sunbrella performance fabric, in two patterns: Tucson in Sunset, which runs warm through reds and oranges, and Yakima Park in Green Heather, a muted green with the pattern broken up across the weave. Both are pattern rather than solid, which is unusual on a dining chair and reads strongest when the chairs are seen as a set.

Sunbrella is solution-dyed acrylic. The pigment goes into the fiber while it is still liquid, before it is extruded, so the color runs through the strand rather than sitting on the outside of it. On a patterned fabric that matters more than on a plain one, because a printed pattern loses definition as its surface wears while a woven, solution-dyed one keeps its lines. The teak frame beneath needs no sealing and will silver if left unfinished.

Upholstered dining chairs suit a covered terrace or a porch, where the fabric is out of standing rain between meals. They pair with a plain table, since the pattern is already doing the work.
