Outdoor Dining Chair – Woven Cane, Cream Colorway

A dining chair in woven cane, in Cream. The weave forms the seat and back rather than being stretched over a solid panel, so the chair has openings through it and weighs a fraction of an upholstered equivalent. That difference is noticeable the first time six of them get moved for a meal.

Cane is cut from the outer bark of the rattan stem, and it is used woven because that is where its strength lies: a single strand is weak, an interlaced panel is not. Outdoors, the openings mean the chair drains at once and dries in moving air rather than holding water in a pad. In direct sun cane lightens over time, and in a permanently damp spot it will not last, so it belongs under cover.

It suits a covered terrace or a screened porch with a dining table. Cream against a dark table is the usual pairing, since a pale open weave reads lighter than its actual volume.
