Hand Knotted Wool Area Rug – Large Sizes Up to 12x15

Four sizes, and the largest is 12' x 15', a dimension few rugs are made in and the one that covers a room end to end rather than defining an island in the middle of it. The rug is hand knotted in wool, with 8' x 10', 9' x 12' and 10' x 14' offered below the top size.

Scale is the hardest thing to get right in a hand knotted rug. A 12' x 15' means a loom wide enough to hold fifteen feet of warp under even tension, with every knot across that width tied by hand. Uneven tension is what leaves a large rug lying crooked or drawing in at one end. Wool helps here as well, since the fiber's elasticity lets the finished rug relax flat rather than holding the stresses of the loom.

At the top size the rug carries a sectional, a coffee table and side chairs with floor still showing at the walls. The smaller sizes fit standard living and dining rooms.
