Tinted glass changes the arithmetic of how many you need. A colored sphere absorbs part of the light rather than passing all of it, so a tinted pendant gives less usable light than a clear one of the same diameter — which is why these are commonly hung in rows rather than singly. The two sizes are close enough that mixing them along one run reads as a deliberate arrangement rather than as an error.
