Colored Glass Pendant Light – Green, Purple or Amber Shade

A pendant with a colored glass shade in Green, Purple or Amber. Purple is the rarest of the three in lighting glass and it behaves differently from the others: it absorbs more of the middle of the spectrum, so the light passing through it arrives dimmer and cooler than an equivalent amber or green shade would deliver.

Color in glass is added to the melt rather than applied over the surface, so it runs through the full thickness of the shade and cannot fade, scratch off, or shift tone in sunlight the way a coated or painted shade eventually does. The depth of color also varies slightly with the thickness of the glass, so the shade is darker at the rim, where the glass is thickest, and lighter across the crown.

It suits a dining table, a hallway or a stairwell, and it works best as one of several light sources rather than as the only one — a strongly colored pendant sets the color of everything beneath it if nothing else is lighting the room.
