Built to last

Closed, it is a book. Opened, the pages fan out into a full circle and the lamp lights from between them. It comes in three sizes — 10 × 8 × 2.5 cm, 15 × 11 × 2.5 cm and 22 × 17 × 2.5 cm — and in a Wood or Brown cover. The 2.5 cm depth is the same across all three, so every size shuts down to the same slimness.

The fold is the whole engineering problem. The pages have to be flexible enough to open through a complete turn and stiff enough to hold that position unsupported, and the spine has to take that repeated flexing without splitting along its length. Because the light sits inside the fan, the pages themselves act as the diffuser, and what comes out is warm and low rather than a visible point source.

It works on a bedside table or a shelf and collapses flat for a drawer or a bag when it is not in use. The smallest size is a night light; the largest throws enough spread to read beside.

The Fold Is The Design

Pages have to be flexible enough to open through a complete turn and stiff enough to hold that position with nothing supporting them. The spine takes that flexing again and again, so it has to bend without splitting along its length.

Lumibook Table Lamp lifestyle 2

Pages As The Diffuser

The light sits inside the fan, which means the pages themselves do the diffusing. What comes out is warm and low rather than a visible point source, so nothing about it glares when it is opened on a bedside table.

Three Sizes, One Depth

All three measure 2.5 cm deep, so every size shuts down to the same slimness and slides into a drawer or a bag. The smallest works as a night light; the largest throws enough spread to read beside.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes are there?

Three: 10 by 8 cm, 15 by 11 cm and 22 by 17 cm. All of them are 2.5 cm deep, so whichever you pick folds down to the same slimness once it is closed.

Does it fold away?

It closes back into a book shape at 2.5 cm deep, which is what lets it go into a drawer or a bag between uses. Opened, the pages fan out into a full circle instead.

Which size should I choose?

The smallest is a night light and little more. The largest throws enough spread to read beside. The middle size sits between the two and suits a shelf where either use might come up.

Is the light harsh?

No. The source sits inside the fan of pages, so the paper diffuses it before it reaches the room. What you see is a warm low glow rather than a point you can look straight at.

Will the spine wear out?

The spine is the part taking the repeated flexing, so it is built to bend through a full turn without splitting along its length. That is the central engineering problem in a lamp which folds.
