It needs a fixing into structure rather than into plasterboard, and the metal fitting has to carry a load no glass shade of the same size would ever impose. In return, concrete is completely opaque and matte, so it throws a hard-edged downward light with no glow through the shade at all, and its surface carries the fine pitting left by the cast.
The narrow models suit a row above a counter or a bar, where several tubes read as a rhythm. The wider models suit a single hanging point over a table. Mixing models along one run gives varied spread from one material.
