Outdoor Bolster Pillow – Linen, Slate or Fawn Woven Lumbar Cushion

This is a bolster rather than a flat lumbar, and outdoors that shape carries a practical advantage: a cylinder has no corners to collect water and no flat top for it to pool on. Three Alessi colorways are offered. Linen is a pale neutral, Slate a cool gray, Fawn a light warm brown.

The cloth is a woven rather than a print, which for an outdoor cushion is the more durable choice. In a woven textile the color belongs to the individual yarns, so as the surface wears the pattern does not thin out, because there is no printed layer sitting on top to abrade away. Sun still acts on woven color, but it acts through the full depth of the cloth evenly rather than stripping a face off it.

A bolster suits the back of a deep outdoor sofa or a daybed, where it holds a sitter forward off a seat that is too deep. It also works indoors on a bench or at the head of a bed.
