Marble Ceiling Light – White or Green Stone with Iron Frame

A ceiling light with a marble element set into an iron frame, the stone in white or green. Green marble is the more unusual of the two — it carries darker and more strongly directional veining than white marble does, so the pattern reads clearly from below. Every piece is cut from a different part of the block.

Putting stone on a ceiling is a structural decision before it is an aesthetic one. Marble is heavy, so the iron frame is carrying real weight and the fixing needs to reach something solid above the plaster. Marble is also partially translucent at thin sections, and that is the reason it works in a light fitting at all: held close to a source, the stone glows faintly and the veining shows as darker lines running through the lit area.

It suits a hallway, a bathroom or a bedroom, wherever a small fixture is meant to be looked at rather than overlooked. Being lit from within, it is one of the few ceiling fixtures that is more interesting switched on than off.
