Glass is the distinguishing material — the other warmer formats use metal shades, and a glass one lets light through, so the fixture illuminates as well as heats rather than only casting a beam straight down onto the jar beneath it.

Glass tolerates the sustained warmth a warmer head produces without discoloring, which is more than can be said for most plastics, and it wipes clean of the wax residue that eventually reaches any warmer. The wooden base does what wood does well on a top-heavy fixture: it adds weight low down and stays cool to the touch while the head above it does not.

It sits on a side table, a shelf or a desk. Because the glass throws light outward as well as downward, it works better than an opaque warmer in a room where it is also expected to contribute some light of its own.
